Photo 127 - Project #1 and the influences

Earlier this morning, I had a chance to shoot some images with an Arriflex 16 camera on 16mm film stock. First time using actual film on anything. It was a cool experience.

The assignment for Advanced Cinematography class (Photo 127) was to shoot five shots outside in broad daylight. For inspiration, I looked at the following music videos (and wound up getting the song stuck in my head for the past couple days):

Metallica - Orion

Vitalic - Poison Lips

Queens of the Stone Age - A Song For The Dead

My Most Anticipated Movies of 2014

Let's get one thing clear. There will be a ton of great movies in 2014. As of now, these are my most anticipated:

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Steve Rogers A.K.A. Captain America is my favorite member of the Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I admire his old fashioned sense of attitude and good morals. His standalone movie wasn't great but I really enjoyed the first half before he jumped into battle. The actions sequences aren't nothing to write home about but what kept me watching was the character. The previews for the sequel look spectacular and I'm ready.

Frank

This movie stars Michael Fassbender. Guess who he's playing in the picture below. That's all I needed to know.

Foxcatcher

I saw the leaked trailer of Foxcatcher a few months ago and it gave me goosebumps. Be prepared to see a very different Steve Carell. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets some Oscar buzz later in the year.

The Raid 2: Berandal

The first Raid movie is one of my favorite action movies of all time and the sequel looks even more badass. I'm expecting a jump in scale similar to The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgement Day

Whiplash

A young musician struggles to make it as a top jazz drummer.

Boyhood

From the director of Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, and Before Midnight. Filmed over the span of twelve years.

Blue Ruin

I don't know much about this revenge movie but the poster caught my attention.

The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby

A love story told from two point of views. Starring James McAvoy and Jessica Chastain.

Gone Girl

David Fincher and Ben Affleck. In today's world, that sounds like a winning combination.

...and a few others including:
- 22 Jump Street
- X-Men: Days of Future Past
- The Expendables 3
- Fury
- Any Ryan Gosling project (How To Catch A Monster and that untitled Terrence Malick project)
- Godzilla
- Guardians of the Galaxy
- Killers
- Need For Speed
- Inherent Vice
- Jane Got A Gun
